Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said 70% adult Indians have received their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine. Praising the guidance shown by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mandaviya tweeted, “Strong Nation, Rapid Vaccination: India has administered the first dose of #COVID19 vaccine on 70% of the population. Under PM @NarendraModiji, India is achieving new landmarks in the fight against the pandemic. Keep it up India, let us fight Corona.”
Vaccine doses exceed 90.79 crore even as 70% adult Indians get first jab
Even as 70% adult Indians receive first vaccine dose, it has been reported that cumulative Covid-19 vaccine doses administered has exceeded 90.79 crore as per provisional reports. It has also been reported that 23,46,176 vaccine doses have been administered in the last 24 hours.
Sources at the Union health ministry said that the number of vaccine doses that had been administered had been achieved through 88,05,668 sessions. These sessions had been held across the country, the ministry said. In fact, ministry sources also added that 70% adult Indians who had received first vaccine dose was also a matter of achievement.
Officials said 25 per cent of the population has been administered both the doses. More than 5.67 crore (5,67,37,905) balance and unutilised vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered, the sources said. .
States take steps ahead of festive season
Many states in the country have started initiating precautionary steps as regards corona ahead of the forthcoming festival season. For example the Ahmednagar district administration in Maharashtra has imposed a 10-day lockdown in 61 villages.
“The district is witnessing 500-800 cases daily and the positivity rate is over 5%. Therefore, directions were issued to implement precautionary measures in villages with more than 10 active cases. Since protocols were not being followed fully, we have imposed strict restrictions in 61 villages in 11 tehsils.” District Collector Rajendra Bhosale said, in an order. Schools will remain shut in these villages also. Bhosale added that just as it was encouraging to know that 70% adult Indians had received their first jab, similarly the administration was aiming for these kind of precautionary steps.
In the state of Kerala, which has been contributing over 60% to India’s Covid-19 tally, has started witnessing a declining trend in daily Coronavirus infections, Mizoram and some parts of Maharashtra have seen a spike in new cases in recent days. Several states have extended Covid-19 restrictions ahead of the festival season in order to limit the spread of the virus.
Covid-19 situation is under control
Overall, the Covid-19 situation in India is under control. The country has been reporting 20,000-25,000 new Covid-19 cases for the past few days as vaccination picked up the pace. As many as 91.79 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were administered in the country so far. About 70% of the country’s adult population has now received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. In another positive development, the government could announce guidelines for vaccinating children against coronavirus by the end of next week.
