Nine hundred and thirty nine police personnel have been awarded medals on the occasion of Republic Day 2022. These include gallantry medals also. The full list of awardees has been issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Police personnel from Jammu and Kashmir have been awarded 115 Police Gallantry Medals. This is the highest number from any police force this year. This is followed by Central Reserve Police Force with 30, Chhattisgarh Police with 10, Odisha Police with nine, and Maharashtra Police with seven.
Sources familiar with the issue said that 134 personnel have been awarded for their gallant action in Jammu and Kashmir region, 47 personnel for their gallant action in Left Wing Extremist affected areas and one for gallant action in North-East Region. While 88 police personnel have been awarded President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, 662 have been awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
The names of two top police officers in the rank of Additional Director General of Police, Mukesh Singh and M K Sinha, have been announced for the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services. Fifteen other officials will receive the Police Medal for Meritorious Services.

J&K Lieutenant Governor felicitates winners of gallantry medals
J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha congratulated all the gallantry award winners from Jammu and Kashmir Police, saying “the entire nation is proud of you”. “Your courage will be remembered for generations to come,” he added.

DGP Dilbagh Singh also congratulated the awardees. He said “once again JKP bags the largest number of gallantry and other medals in the country.”
Fire services personnel also receive gallantry medals
Apart from gallantry and service medals for police, fire services personnel have been awarded Fire Service Medals on the occasion of Republic Day. Forty two personnel from the fire services have been honored. Out of 42 medals, one has been awarded President’s Fire Service Medal for Gallantry while two have been awarded Fire Service Medal for Gallantry for their respective acts of valor and gallantry.
President’s Medal for Gallantry, President’s Medal for Distinguished Services, Gallantry Medal and Meritorious Services Medals are awarded to the personnel of fire services, civil defence and home guards every year on Republic Day and Independence Day.

In another news, India has developed a virtual museum to bring together the stories of commitment and sacrifice of the gallantry awards winners in an innovative and user-friendly format. Minister of State (Defence) Ajay Bhatt has inaugurated the interactive Virtual Museum. It has been hosted by the Gallantry Awards portal.
The virtual museum brings together stories of commitment and sacrifice of the gallantry awards winners in an innovative and user-friendly format. It comprises a 3-D walk-through experience, gallery building, lobby, wall of fame, a tour of war memorials, war room, resource center, selfie booth and equipment display, etc.
The Virtual Museum has been jointly developed by the Ministry of Defence (MoD), the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics, as part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ commemorating 75 years of Independence.
