Lucknow team enter IPL as ‘Lucknow Super Giants’

Noida: This 15th season of Indian Premier League (IPL), also called IPL 15, will have more flavor as it has expanded. How big 2022 IPL is going to be can be gauged from the fact that not eight but 10 teams are participating this season. Of the six franchises announced in 2021 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Lucknow and Ahmedabad have found a place this season.

Lucknow team announce name


Ending the long waiting guessing game, the Lucknow team have announced the name. The franchise will be called Lucknow Super Giants. The team’s ownership is with RP Sanjeev Goenka Group. The Lucknow franchise made the official announcement on Monday.

It was in 2021 the Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG Group purchased the franchise for Rs 7,090 crore. The RPSG Group had decided to take opinion from the fans. The group had held a contest, ‘Naam banao naam kamao’ to seek opinion from fans.

 The other team to enter the competition is from Ahmedabad. They were bought by Irelia Company Pte Ltd. (CVC Capital Partners) for Rs 5,635 crore. 

KL Rahul is captain of Lucknow team

The Lucknow Super Giants have already announced their captain. KL Rahul will be captain in IPL 2022. Lucknow had included Rahul in his team by giving a hefty amount of Rs 17 crore. Earlier, Rahul was captain of Punjab Kings. Not only this, Rahul also became the most expensive player of this league. However, Rahul’s record as a captain has not been very striking. This player also failed to take Punjab to the playoffs every season.

Auction will be held on this date

Actually, recently a new news was revealed that IPL Mega Auction is going to be held on February 11, 12 and 13. According to media reports, BCCI sources cleared it. They said, “Let us tell you that this decision was taken only after confirming the new franchisees from Ahmedabad and Lucknow.”
