Omicron variant cases surge in India

Noida: With Omicron variant gradually spreading its tentacles across the globe and in India, the nation till early Wednesday has reported around 213 cases. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,  Maharashtra recorded 11 new infections of Omicron variant taking the tally of cases in the state to 54 while in Delhi they have risen to 57.

Delhi and Maharashtra are contributing maximum number of new Omicron variant cases to the country’s total caseload. Meanwhile, India recorded 6,317 new cases of Covid-19 and 318 deaths in the last 24 hours. The country’s active caseload presently stands at 78,190, the lowest in 575 days.

Center’s guidelines on Omicron variant

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has issued specific guidelines to states given the ‘initial signs of surge’ in Covid-19 caseload as well as increased detection of the Variant of Concern (VoC), Omicron variant  in different parts of the country. Bhushan informed these recommendations related to strategies for containment and restrictions in districts reporting high positivity rates, including the imposition of night curfew, strict regulation of large gatherings, curtailing numbers in marriages.  

Guidelines explained
The health ministry has said that there are reports of test positivity rate of more than 10% in the last one week or if bed occupancy is 40% or more on oxygen supported beds, then district administration can impose containment measures. The ministry adds The health ministry adds based on local situation and population characteristics and bearing in  mind the higher transmissibility of Omicron variant, states can take restrictive steps.

MP Danish Ali Covid positive
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Danish Ali tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday. The parliamentarian, who is fully vaccinated, developed mild symptoms. Ali tweeted Tuesday talking about his condition. He advised those came in contact with him to get themselves tested.  He also alerted everyone about Omicron variant cases rising and that people should take precautions.
